Bono speaks at the launch of the authorized biography of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu at St. George’s Cathedral, in Cape Town. The biography, titled,”Tutu” was written by veteran journalist, Alister Sparks, and Tutu’s daughter, Mpho. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, celebrates his 80th birthday on Friday, October 7, 2011. The launch was attended by U2 lead singer, Bono, and a host of other friends, family, and supporters. Bono also sang one of his songs.

BONO was spotted partying in top nightclub Lillie’s Bordello this weekend.

Fresh from raising his pint of Guinness on Arthur’s Day, Bono arrived in the top Dublin club on Friday night.

The U2 frontman spent the night chilling out with pal Julian Lennon who had just wrapped up his stint on The Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy.

Speaking on the show, the son of Beatle John Lennon showed Ryan photographs he had taken of Bono in France while performing with the number one band.

An insider said Bono spent most of the night chatting with Julian.

“Bono has always been a big fan of Lillie’s, it seems to be the only place he goes when he’s in town.

“He’s quite a private guy so he kept to himself most of the night in the VIP area but he often goes to the Library and chats with other guests.”

Also seen partying in the Lillie’s VIP area were singer Sharon Corr, the band members of Snow Patrol, MTV presenter Laura Whitmore, soccer pundit Ray Houghton and Masterchef star Dylan McGrath.

Only Stella McCartney could bag such a glitzy guest list.

Her impressive group of celeb pals were on fashionable form to fete the designer as she unveiled her latest collection in New York.

Actresses Naomi Watts and Liv Tyler, U2 frontman Bono, singer Estelle and Vogue editor Anna Wintour were all amongst the starry contingent. The regulars from her close circle missing were Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The mum-of-four had pulled out all the stops.

Ensuring this was no ordinary fashion show, she opted to showcase her resort collection at a fun-filled garden party – complete with hula hoops, bubble wands and yo-yos.

As her A-list friends mingled, models in sunshine-striped separates and Hawaiian prints posed in the lush green surroundings.

That combined with Stella’s line of lust-worthy accessories and some classic English lawn games made for a seriously cool outdoor soiree.

The 39-year-old posed with each of her friends in turn on the lawn, who were loyally clad in on-trend brights from Stella’s new range.

The lady herself had opted for her trusty grey jeans, paired with her trademark blazer, a white vest and nude mesh ankle strap wedges.

And she looked particularly pleased to see Bono, who is a family friend.

The U2 star is close to her dad, Paul McCartney, who once showed him the sights of Liverpool by car. “It was like being in the Pope-mobile with the Pope driving,” he remarked afterwards.

The actress, clad in a simple blue frock, towered inches above the U2 man as they posed for snaps at STELLA McCARTNEY’s secret fashion exhibition in New York.

The unlikely pair linked arms after bumping into each other on a garden lawn.

Bono – in his staple all-black attire and anti-UV shades – did his best to match Liv’s height by arching his head back.

The Armageddon beauty also dwarfed Stella, who held a presentation for her Spring 2012 collection at a private location.

Surely there’s no such thing as a hush-hush bash when Liv can be seen for miles around.

After all, she’s taller than several species of tree…

Bono and the Edge to Appear on the Tonys
Bono and the Edge will take the stage on the 65th Annual Tony Awards, which will air on CBS on Sunday, June 12th, a spokesperson for the Tonys tells Rolling Stone. The U2 rockers are likely to introduce a performance from their musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark featuring the show’s stars Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano, though details have not yet been confirmed.

Vocalist Bono and guitarist The Edge of U2 fame got caught in the ‘American Idol’ web on tonight’s season finale, performing a song from the beleaguered Broadway musical ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.’ (We won’t even go there and detail all the injuries, permit problems and stops and starts the show has endured over the past few months!)

Reeve Carney, who stars in the Broadway show, joined the rock legends on he stage, which was covered in — what else? — webs. While the trio performed, an actual Spiderman swung from the ceiling and then tried to plant a kiss on the lips of judge Jennifer Lopez a la a recreation of a key scene from the first movie. How sassy.

At first, we were surprised that iconoclasts like members of U2 would actually perform on show like ‘Idol,’ but it was a smart move to help promote the Broadway show for which they wrote music. It’s simple marketing and even the likes of Bono (who didn’t remove his signature shades) realize the value of promotion through a vehicle like ‘American Idol.’

“You’re gonna fly your freak flags forever,” the ousted MTV exec tells a crowd of colleagues and friends.

Former MTV Networks chairman and CEO Judy McGrath bid adieu to 30 years with the company in style.

A star-studded crowd of about 50 that included Stephen Colbert and U2′s Bono and The Edge gathered to see McGrath off at an impromptu party following the announcement of her resignation on Thursday.

According to the NY Post’s Page Six, the beloved exec showed up wearing a laminate around her neck that read “Backstage for Life” and told her friend and colleagues, “I know you know how I feel … I’ll send you an elaborate letter on Gmail … You’re gonna fly your freak flags forever. I love you badly, and you know where I live.”

McGrath, an industry veteran who saw the Viacom-owned MTV Networks through multiple reinventions and helped develop hit shows such as “Unplugged” and “Jersey Shore,” recently announced that she was stepping down from her position after 30 years with the company.

When asked about whispers at the party that Executive Vice President David Janollari would take on McGrath’s responsibilities, an MTV rep told Page Six, “Judy chose to leave now because of the health of all of the networks. MTV is doing incredibly well, so we won’t be making changes. David Janollari will continue his role running programming.”

The final line-up for Glastonbury 2011 has been revealed.

The full Glastonbury Festival line-up has been revealed and includes Morrissey opening the main stage for U2 on Friday night.

Other acts in the final 2011 Glastonbury line-up include Plan B, Tinie Tempah, The Vaccines, The Kills, Chipmunk, White Lies, Kaiser Chiefs and Jessie J and Laura Marling.

U2, Coldplay and Beyonce will be headlining the mega festival in June.

News that Morrissey will be performing has been greeted with glee by his loyal fans. The Smiths legend first played Glastonbury in 1984 and had to cut short his set when the stage was invaded.

“When the Smiths played in 1984 it changed everything for us. We had just been about hippy bands until then and when they performed it was like a bolt of lightning,” said Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis.

Confirmed: Beyonce headlining Glastonbury

The Chemical Brothers, Mumford and Sons, Primal Scream, Fleet Foxes and Friendly Fires have already been announced for the summer music fest.

Bands playing some of the smaller stages include The Eels, Gruff Rhys, Guillemots, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Graham Coxon.

Festival organiser Emily Eavis said that 2011 promises to be one of the most musically diverse Glastonbury festivals ever.

“To get all of these incredible artists is really quite a feat. I think this is one of most eclectic line-ups yet,” she said.

Twitter is abuzz with news of Glastonbury’s final line-up.

“The Glastonbury line-up looks great… Apart from *Shitty* U2 and *Wank* Coldplay,” said CrazyRetard.

Bands team up to play covers at Brazil nightclub

Members of U2 and Muse covered songs by David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads during a secret gig in a nightclub in Brazil.

The bands teamed up at Sao Paulo nightclub Bar Secreto after wrapping up their South American stadium tour on Wednesday (April 13).

During the show, Bono and Larry Mullen joined forces with Dom Howard to sing David Byrne’s band’s track ‘Psycho Killer’.

Later, The Edge sang karaoke-style versions of Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ and The Rolling Stones’ ‘Miss You’.

The tour saw Muse support U2 at a number of dates in Brazil and Argentina.

If you’re a fan of Oprah Winfrey you’ve been following her journey through the Land of Oz all last week. Indeed, Oprah, Gayle and her group of lucky ultimate viewers traveled to some amazing locations in the land down under.

On her last televised date in Australia the queen of talk show, wearing her hair with a front bump and a little perky ponytail, pulled out all the stops. Her first visit was to a U2 concert and a trip backstage to hang with Bono and the boys.

Oprah’s U2 Guitar

During her pre-concert visit Oprah was gifted with a guitar. Bono greeted Oprah with “her majestyness.” Oprah seemed overwhelmed by the greeting and said “I really can’t take it”. Edge present Oprah with a guitar and said “it’s from all of us.” Then Oprah walked with the band to the stage and took her place in the audience where she proceeded to enjoy her first live concert with the world famous U2 band.

Oprah, Gayle, her ultimate viewers and 70,000 people, according to Oprah “lost their minds” as U2 performed. Bono incorporated Oprah into his lyrics “Oprah Winfrey right in front of you.”

Bono Visits Oprah In Sydney

As if visiting a U2 concert wasn’t enough, Bono appeared with Oprah onstage in Sydney in the famous concert hall. Oprah told the audience “last night I said to Bono and the (U2) band I said ‘this is my first concert so I’m a virgin, I’m a U2 virgin’ and Bono said “don’t worry, we’ll take it easy with you baby.’ Bono, who was holding hands with Oprah, laughed and said “I actually said ‘we won’t take it easy with you.’”

Oprah told the audience that seeing U2 was so exciting for her and she thinks everyone should see U2 live in concert during their lifetime. She told Bono “I’ve known you all these years and I’ve never saw you at work and I could not keep my mouth shut last night. You are a rock star.” Bono seemed very modest and said “only part time.”

Oprah asked Bono if “after 30 years of performing does it still fell as huge as it felt to those of us in that stadium?” Bono said “it is an otherworldly feeling. But to need 60,000 people screaming your name a night to feel normal. It’s probably not normal. I hope I know that, I think I know that. But I mean, what’s this like? (Oprah at the Syndey opera house). What going on here? Your majestyness.”

Oprah mentioned “JayZ opened (U2?s show) last night and had the crowd going crazy. How did you two powerhouses get together?” Bono said “He’s just come on the road because he wants to meet Australia and he thought U2 could introduce him to Australia.”

Bono On Broadway

Oprah then told the crowd “Bono is now taking his turn on Broadway. The musical Spiderman is playing now in New York City. And Bono and U2?s greatest guitarist in the world, Edge, did all that music. I got a sneak preview in November.” Oprah asked Bono “is the creative process different when you’re working on a musical than if you’re just writing songs for yourself?”

The key was trying to relevant and the key to trying to keep things fresh for yourself is do things that you don’t know how to do. For me and Edge to go to Broadway, we thought ‘well, that’s going to be a very fresh experience for us.’ And we thought “if we’re going, lets create something no one else has ever seen or heard before.”

Oprah asked Bono about a quote he made to a Melbourne newspaper where he said “being successful is easier than being relevant.” Bono told Oprah “you know, we’ve been doing this for awhile and when you do it for awhile you’ve got to ask some questions. Do people really need another U2 album? You know, there’s a couple hundred million in that there.”

He continued “at some point maybe people will say no. But I think you’ve got to ask that question. And to answer that question you have to dig very deep when you go into the studio. And you have to try and surprise yourself first. And if you do that I think you can surprise your audience. And that’s what keeps you relevant. But that’s not a given. We don’t expect that just by showing up for work it’s enough. We do not take this treatment we’ve had, ourselves, in Australia for granted, I promise you.”

Bono Putting His Sunglasses Away

Oprah said “U2 has been touring for 30 years. Do you ever think about putting away the sunglasses and doing something else? Hanging up the leather jacket and doing something else?”

She told the audience that “that day that I announced to the world that I was going to be ending the show Gayle said she ran into you someplace and she was saying ‘oh its so sad, Oprah’s going to be leaving’ and you said ‘no man, it’s the greatest.’

Oprah asked Bono why he said that about her leaving her show after 25 years. Bono said “It’s a pause. You’re pressing pause. You’re right, you’re in the United States, your in the spotlight. You’re the blinking queen for goodness sakes. I think you deserve a moment out of the spotlight to come back even more extraordinary than now, if that’s possible.”

Bono’s Sunglasses Equals His Superpowers

He continued “but with regards my sunglasses. I can hand in the leather jacket, but you see, these (my sunglasses) are my super powers. I would lose my super powers. Because when I look through these glasses, every problem is solvale. I’m tall..eeehhhh. I can’t let them go.

Oprah reminded Bono that he looked mesmerizing on the stage and wanted to know how it feels “up there” and does it look as great as it does “on the LED wall?”

Bono paused and said “I feel, out of my body. That is the feeling. And Edge, Larry and Adam, its the same. It’s a corny word but it’s not a corny word. But there is a kind of blessing that you feel. Just to follow this thing. It’s been the greatest, the greatest, greatest priviledge, yeah.”

Bono left at that point because “60,000 people were waiting for him”. Bono said “we’re going to tune in” to her show.

Audiences at next week’s previews of Broadway’s Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark might spot a few familiar faces in the theater — namely director Julie Taymor and U2 rock legends Bono and The Edge, who wrote the show’s score. “Julie and Bono and Edge…will be in the theater next week and for all of the preview performances leading up to the opening night working on the show,” production spokesman Rick Miramontez tells EW exclusively. The creative team is assembling to continue the fine-tuning process as the show heads toward its new official opening date of Feb. 7, 2011. Miramontez confirms that the show will undergo changes, though he declines to specify any particular tweaks. (Unconfirmed reports have identified the show’s music and second act as target areas.)

Miramontez also spoke out against the early critiques of the show that have surfaced in a few news outlets earlier this week. “I think it’s disrespectful, especially to Julie Taymor,” he says. “And that’s what makes all of us crazy.” Despite the Dec. 20 accident that sent stunt actor Christopher Tierney to the hospital and forced the cancellation of several performances, Miramontez says both cast and crew remain enthusiastic. “They’re very upbeat. I think they were extremely proud to have given the performance they did when they came back last Thursday. If anything, this has created a [sense of] solidarity.”

The cast of the Green Day rock musical American Idiot will rock out to bring in 2011, with a live performance in Times Square as part of the “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” special Dec. 31, according to aceshowbiz.com.

Daly will also interview U2′s Bono and the Edge, who will discuss writing the score for Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, the new musical currently in previews on Broadway.

Other musical guests are set to include Greyson Chance, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and My Chemical Romance. NBC late-night host Jimmy Fallon will appear in a segment with NBC News anchor Brian Williams, and other interview segments will feature “Saturday Night Live” cast member Jay Pharoah and Internet celebrity Antoine Dodson.

American Idiot is currently playing at the St. James Theatre. Spider-Man is in previews at the Foxwoods Theatre.

The special will air live Dec. 31 from 10 PM -12:30 AM ET on NBC.
